James in C# Minor

The setting:

Fellowship hall, church. Purple sticky tile, light yellow walls. A large table of food; several tables full of men. The smell of stale Ugandan coffee in the air. A tucked away bathroom off one of the side rooms. A man speaking his testimony or telling about who he is. Voice low and conversational. Men in a borken circle surrounding him.

The players: Men from our church, Daniel Brantley describing his opinions on music in the church, James, a visiting homeless man, who often stops by, and who has just made way for the bathroom.

So Daniel begans his critique of the presence of the particular type of music that is in existence in the OPC currently. He begins very thoughtfully, dancing around any controversial issues. And then he begins to get into more substantial issues, upon which I won't reflect now.

Just then, James, having successfully found the bathroom, and being particularly glad to have done so, begins to issue forth a low sweet song.

It is at this moment that the world turns surreal for me, and my mind flashes into some mode that is akin to Deja Vu.

There is a homeless man singing in the bathroom, and the serious OPCers are discussing the mode of music in the church. I try not to analyze or think about what is going on, and just enjoy the lull of the conversation, the purple and yellow splashes that enter my vision, and the low sweet melody that wafts from the bathroom into the foyer, out the door, and into the world outside.
