Jesus is a Chuckle Away
It is a good thing to tell people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
It is even a better thing to tell them in a warm, 'correct' way.
Sometimes I wonder if, perhaps, some Presbyterians lose sight a little of the warmth and power of the gospel for the sake of correctness.
But, not my son, not yet.
the setting: Gretchen and the kids had just finished visiting Doris Elliot at St Barnabas (for those who want to perform the Christian duty of ministering to widows, contact me).
Ender had gotten done cheering her up a bit. She always remembers him as the young man who walked her from the church to her car (unsolicited, as slow as she needed to go, and him enjoying every minute of talking with her).
So anyway, they (Gretchen and kids) get into an elevator with two elderly women from St Barnabas (patients, obviously). And one of the women turns to Ender and asks him,
"So what is Santa bringing you for Christmas this year?"
Ender looks at her and quietly chuckles to himself. Then a pause and another chuckle.
Then he turns to the lady and says, in the sweetest voice, "Someone's tricked you."
Another pause and a smile and a chuckle, "Someone's tricked you. There is no Santa; Christmas is Jesus Birthday."
And the lady's face lights up as she wholeheartedly agrees with him.
Sometimes, Jesus is a Chuckle away.
